DC Team
DC wins the 2009 "Battle of the Bolt" 37-30.

The Chargers took home the "Battle for the Bolt" trophy for the first time as they defeated ANML 37-30 in the annual meeting of the  Chargers vs. the Lightning.

Neither team was at full strength due to injury, illness, and not having everyone down to weight after Christmas break, but Chargers earned bonus points in several matches, but more importantly did not give up bonus points through the heart of ANML's line up.

Max Anderson started DC out with a major decision win at 103 followed by a 3rd period pin from Kyle Johnson at 112 and a forfeit to Brandon Fiedler at 119 to take a 16-0 lead after the first 3 weights.  Tyler Dobmeier had an exciting come from behind win at 130 which brought the score to 19-3.

DC had several guys show what team is all about.  Marcus Wanha, Dan Wanha, and Marcus Ramos all  bumped up weight classes to wrestle some of ANML's best kids and saved the team points.  Dan kept his match to a major decision and Ramos kept his match to a technical fall saving the team 3 team points over those matches.

DC forfeited at 152 and bumped senior; captain Brendon Opsahl up to 160.  This was Opsahl's first time on the mat after missing the first 1/3 of the season due to injury.  Tyler Nelson also bumped up to 171 and almost pulling out a win in the 3rd period but came up short losing 4-7.

This set up the deciding match of the dual.  The score was 19-30 in favor of the Lighting, but DC had forfeit's coming at 215 and 285 essentially making it a 1 point dual.  Dakota Hanson went out a 189 and picked up a first period takedown, a second period reversal, and a pin to clinch the dual at 2:59 in the second period.

Highlights:

Max improved to 7-0, Kyle Johnson and Dakota Hanson's pins, Tyler Dobmeier's come from behind victory, and saving bonus points from several guys giving up weight in the middle weights.

Coach Clemen's (Dassel-Cokato) Comments:

"This was a very good team win tonight and one we can be proud of.  Annandale - Maple Lake is a solid program and to take the "Bolt" trophy home is a good feeling.  Tonight was all about team.  We had five guys in our line up bump up a weight class to wrestle for the team.  They did not complain, they did not question, they had faith in what we do as a program and gave us their best effort against some of ANML's best wrestlers.

We were able to fill 13 of the 14 weights tonight and gave up bonus points in four matches (pin, ff, major dec, tech) and picked bonus points in six matches (2 pins, 3 forfeit's, and major decision).

We still have a tough week ahead as we face Litchfield on Thursday at home and it is parent's night and then we travel to Buffalo for the Bison duals where we may see Foley, Big Lake, Buffalo, Alexandria and some other solid teams."

Next Up for the Chargers:

Thursday - Home vs Litchfield - 6 PM JV / 7 PM V ** Parent's night
Saturday - @ Buffalo - Bison duals - 10 AM Round 1
