The North Suburban Parochial School League concluded the 2009 season
with their 27th annual wrestling championships on Sunday, March 29th at
Totino-Grace High School. Twelve schools participated in the dual meet
season and the individual tournament, involving upper elementary
through 8th grade wrestlers. Meadow Creek Christian School of Andover
won their third straight team title, ahead of runner-up St. Stephen’s
(Anoka), St. Vincent de Paul (Osseo) and Epiphany (Coon Rapids).
MCC wrestlers advanced to the championship round at seven of thirteen weight classes, with four capturing titles.
The league named co-outstanding wrestlers for the first time, as
eighth graders Mark Olson of St. Stephen’s and Nick Shaugnessy of
Benilde-St. Margaret’s were honored after battling for the 145 pound
title. Shaugnessy won the 2009 title, and Olson was a 2008 champion.
Epiphany seventh grader Corey Vaillancourt won his fourth NSPSL gold
medal with three straight falls at 95 pounds to become one of only a
hand full of wrestlers to achieve that accomplishment.
